Janay Coetzee

Production Designer

Janay Coetzee is originally from Cape Town where she attended art classes since the age of 12 within and outside school context. Working with different mediums and applying these to creating logos, stencils, and perspective drawings specifically. She relocated to Namibia in 2016 where she expanded generating creative content into technical drawings. Learning how to use AutoCad to create blueprints, creating full layouts for building design featuring all perspectives and realistic measuring. She moved back to Cape Town in 2018 to study Production Design at AFDA, hoping to combine her knowledge and passion for aesthetics into designing for film productions. Here she expanded by learning to translate design in SketchUp, Mixed Media perspective drawings, scale modelling and Photoshop. Since joining the course she has also gained experience in creating spaces in the studio by using flats as well as creating props and learning scenic painting techniques. She has a passion for symbolic design as well as exploring colour theory as means to visually communicate themes and plot subconsciously in an audience.
